She is a passionate journalist pursuing a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Journalism at the University of The Gambia’s School of Journalism and Digital Media. She also holds an Advanced Diploma in Journalism and Communication from the Media Academy for Journalism and Communication (MAJaC).
She has considerable experience in media work, particularly in reporting. She is a recognized reporter specialising in agriculture and rural development. In 2022, she was recognized as the best migration reporter of 2021 in The Gambia Press Union National Journalism Awards.
Jarra has held diverse roles, including administrative assistant at MAJaC and administrative manager at The Development Magazine—Gambia, where she served for three years. She has also reported for The Point Newspaper, one of the Gambia’s leading print outlets.
Driven by passion and commitment, she has always sought equal opportunities for equitable development. This desire led to the conceptual initiation of “The Rural Eye,” a platform that aims to highlight the struggles of rural people and communities and propose pathways for equitable development through effective rural reporting.
As a rural development enthusiast, Jarra enjoys working with organisations focused on rural development, which not only fuels her drive to contribute to rural progress but also builds the capacities of rural people.
Aside from her professional endeavors, Jarra enjoys engaging in voluntary activities with organizations that are focused on promoting human development. She is a member of volunteer organisations such as The Gambia Volunteers’ Trust (GVT), the Federation of Gambia Muslim Youths (FEGAMY), and Girls in the Frontline for Development, where she holds key roles.
